Nestled along the Georgetown Trail in Lewes, Delaware, Old World Breads Bakery is a true sanctuary for lovers of artisan baked goods and comforting breakfast and lunch delights. This unassuming bakery at 32191 Nassau Rd #4 may not boast flashy storefronts, but its reputation is built on the warmth and authenticity found inside, making it a beloved gem among locals and visitors alike.
Old World Breads specializes in crafting a broad selection of breads and pastries that echo traditional European techniques, enhanced with thoughtfully sourced ingredients. Whether you’re craving flaky, buttery croissants, a perfectly spiced pumpkin pie, or the sweet tang of a lemon scone, this bakery delivers with passion and precision. Their standout croissants have been called “maybe the best ever” by customers like Dennis Wildberger, who also swears by their lemon sugar donut and robust coffee—making it an ideal spot to linger and savor the morning.
Beyond the pastries, their savory offerings deserve equal applause. Richard Federbusch praises their chicken pot pie as a "masterpiece of comfort food," featuring a flaky crust that cradles tender, succulent chicken—a dish that invites you in with its nostalgic aroma and luxurious texture. Additionally, the flatbread pizza offers a crunchy, fresh-tasting departure with ripe tomatoes and a rich sauce that balances flavor and freshness perfectly.
The bakery’s menu reflects a thoughtful variety that caters to diverse tastes and dietary preferences. From the vegan Morning Glory muffin to the indulgent almond croissant, and from the hearty raisin bread to their soft pretzels, their baked goods offer something for nearly every palate. John, a loyal patron, prizes their cranberry and walnut boule and sticky buns as essential weekend market finds, noting that their raisin bread is a prized treasure—if it’s still available!
Old World Breads also shines as a thoughtful stop for travelers and gift seekers. As Anne-Marie Charland shares, many make it a ritual to stop here on their return trips from the beach, picking up assorted goodies both for themselves and as thoughtful gifts. Though some have experienced occasional misses, like the coffee and hot breakfast sandwiches, the consistent praise for their breads, cookies, and pies more than balances out any isolated disappointment, and they continue to draw repeat customers eager to explore the display case’s tempting array.
Morgan P’s advice to visit in person rather than ordering online underscores the bakery’s irresistible display and the sensory joy of choosing fresh goods right off the shelves. Their sticky buns remain a can’t-miss, with other pastries like croissants and cookies beckoning visitors back time and again.
Stepping into Old World Breads Bakery means more than just grabbing a quick bite; it’s an experience steeped in warmth, quality, and a genuine passion for time-honored baking. Whether you’re a devoted bread aficionado or someone simply in search of a cozy culinary escape in Lewes, Old World Breads promises authentic flavors and memorable moments with every visit.

If you're looking for specialty baked breaded items like cookies, muffins, pies, quiche, old world bread offers a big selection. We typically stop on our trip back home from the beach and get a few items for ourselves and as gifts. We are always happy with everything we get. In addition to our usual, we ordered coffee and hot breakfast sandwiches for the trip back, and were very disappointed. Coffee, despite being espresso, was weak and tasteless. The breakfast sandwich is an omelet between a 'brioche' aka hamburger or potato bun without condiments. So they were very dry and flavorless, definitely not worth the $8.50 price point. All in all, they do a great job with their bakery items and will continue ordering the items we do enjoy.
Right on the Georgetown Trail. Maybe the best croissant I ever had! The lemon sugar donut - and the coffee was excellent too. A very nice place to stop and linger for a while.
This is a hidden gem in Lewes. It is unassuming on the outside, but looks can be deceiving. This place offers incredible breakfast and lunch items. I have had a chicken pot pie which was a masterpiece of comfort food with its flaky crust and tender chicken. I have also had the flatbread pizza. This flavor-packed treat was crunchy and had fresh tomatoes and a delicious sauce. As a breakfast item, I recently had the yogurt parfait. This creamy treat was visually stunning, and had a vibrant mix of fresh berries and granola. Simply put, this place serves fresh, delicious food with super friendly service.
Favorite booth to visit during Lewes Saturday morning Farmers Market. I always get Cranberry and walnut boule, Morning Glory(Vegan muffins), croissants, Focaccia, and sticky buns. All highly recommended! I also get their Raisins bread if it’s not Sold Out!
I recommend going in person instead of placing order online so you can see what looks tasty and catches your eye in the display case. They have some GREAT bread. Some pastries are hit or miss. Would definitely come back again for the sticky bun, and to try their cookies and maybe a croissant.
Could not have a better location. Directly off the Georgetown-Lewes trail for bikers but also a large lot for vehicles. Personable ordering combined with consistently delicious food!
This bakery was a short walk from where we were staying. It's very conveniently located right off a walking and biking trail. Plenty of parking for you car too. We enjoyed our walk there and back. The baklava was very good. The mocha latte was very tasty. The cinnamon roll was good, too.
Fantastic bakery! I buy fresh bread here every week. Must try breads are the ancient grains, the cranberry walnut, and the cinnamon raisin. The best.
